Hacker
The lack of an agreed on the definition of what the term
hacker means has and will be a difficult for researchers attempting to study individuals who's involved in the hacking process
Hacker Categories
One of
the first attempts to more clearly define the hacker community was Landreth He proposed a classification system based on the activities the hacker
was involved in. He developed Five categories;
1 novice
2 student
3 tourist
4 crasher
5 thief.
The
elite group displayed level of knowledge and were motivated to achieve, self-discovery, and for the challenge (Chantler,
1996).Parker
(1998) indicated there were seven significant types of cybercriminals;
pranksters, , malicious hackers, personal problem solvers, , extreme advocates, hackstersand malcontents, addicts, and irrational and career criminals ,incompetent people.
Pranksters
were defined individuals perpetrate tricks on others hand. Their intent was
not to inflict to any long harm Hacksters were defined in
terms similar to Levy’s first generation hackers. They usually explored computer systems for education, curiosity out of some
form of social justice.
